17th Annual Pocono Garlic Festival

Shawnee-on-Delaware, PA - Seventeen years of garlic-y goodness! A local tradition, the Pocono Garlic Festival is happening again on Labor Day Weekend, September 3 & 4. Host site Shawnee Mountain Ski Area is pleased to offer a sampling of the regions’ local farms, food vendors, crafters and entertainers for the Poconos locally-based, premier food festival.

This event is truly all about the garlic and all the garlic featured, sold and used for food preparation at the event is grown and harvested in the Poconos. Local farms providing garlic and produce for the festival include: Knob View Farm, the Josie Porter Farm, Rolling Hills Farm, Fairman Farm, Burdick Creek Gardens, Mapleland Farms, Swarmbustin’ Honey, Mountaindale Farms and Vista Farm.

Over 50 vendors will provide a wide range of foods from simple to sophisticated, geared for the “foodie” with discerning taste buds. The 2011 Pocono Garlic Festival is a platform to showcase the regions most pungent garlic and finest eateries. Delectable delights will range from garlic beef brisket and apple garlic soup to garlic sauerkraut and garlic ice cream. Local artists and crafters will exhibit a variety of hand crafted garlic themed creations and wears at this years two day event. From homemade wood items to pottery to jewelry and even handcrafted soaps, garlic in every form imaginable will be on display.

Main stage performers include returning and zany headliners Zydeco-A-Go-Go, the country rocking Blue Emerald Band and the fiery fiddlers of Burning Bridget Cleary. The mountain stage will feature local favorites including The Juggernaut String Band, the Lost Ramblers, Jazz Juice, Nancy & Spencer Reed and the Len Mooney Duo. The PA Dance Network will also be returning with several dance performances throughout both days. With two outdoor stages, an outdoor children’s area and petting zoo, educational lectures, cooking demonstrations and strolling acts, festival goers will enjoy a wide variety of non-stop live music and “garlic themed” novelty shows and entertainment geared towards the whole family.

Spring Skiing Continuing with Full Snow-Covered Slopes
Tannersville, PA - There's a lot of winter season left to enjoy wonderful skiing and snowboarding and Camelback Mountain Resort, located in the heart of the Pocono Mountains, just 1 ½ hours from the New York metro area, has all the ingredients for a fun-packed day on the slopes. Even though the slopes of Camelback aren't schedule to close until April 2nd, you're probably looking at this picture and asking yourself...why would a ski resort want to push snow off their slopes? Because at Camelback Mountain Resort...the "fun" business doesn't end when the snow melts...it just means that another season begins.

Camelback Mountain Resort is also home to Camelbeach Mountain Waterpark, the largest outdoor waterpark in Pennsylvania. In fact, Camelbeach has more slides than any waterpark in Pennsylvania or New Jersey. "Do we really need to push snow off the slopes this early? Not usually and a lot of guests are looking quite puzzled at the fact that we are," says Brian Czarnecki, VP of Sales & Marketing at Camelback. "We're only pushing the snow off two slopes to make way for the construction of the waterpark's two new family tube rides, SandStorm and Dune Runner. Everything about these two new rides literally screams excitement. Over 2 million dollars will be spent on the two new slides at Camelbeach Mountain Waterpark, fresh off a 3 million dollar expansion of the four-story, family-friendly, Pharaoh's Phortress ride-house feature added in 2008. The park's count of rides, slides and attractions now totals over 35. Camelbeach will open on the Memorial Weekend Holiday, while the two new rides will open on June 17th.

Camelback Mountain Resort Hosts Adaptive Camp for Kids

Week Culminates with Diana Golden Race
Tannersville, PA - Camelback Mountain Resort is hosting the 17th Annual Adaptive Camp for 5-18 year olds with physical disabilities February 1nd to 5th. This is a fun sports camp for children who want to learn how to ski or want to improve their skills. The camp includes five days of ski lessons with passionate, fun-loving instructors, as well as a chance to bond with other kids that share their passion for skiing.

"Our partnership with the Pennsylvania Center for Adapted Sports is wonderful because it helps make snowsports possible for everyone," said Charles Blier, General Manager/Executive Vice President at Camelback Mountain Resort. "This gives kids with disabilities a great opportunity to learn a new sport or improve their skills; and most importantly, they can meet new friends." continued Blier.

At the conclusion of camp, the campers will be prepared to race in the Diana Golden Race Series held on Saturday, February 5th on Raceway. This gives each child the opportunity to challenge him/herself while having fun!

The Diana Golden Series is an introductory alpine ski racing series for children and adults of all ages with physical disabilities. The races are two run GS courses on a NASTAR style course. These races are the first step towards making the Paralympics.

Camelback Mountain Resort Ski Patrol Awarded Outstanding Alpine Patrol

Tannersville, PA - Camelback Mountain Resort Ski Patrol Team won the Outstanding Alpine Patrol award in the Eastern Pennsylvania Region of the National Ski Patrol organization.

The Ski Patrol and Ranger Team at Camelback is a group that has a strong desire to help others, to learn emergency care techniques, to improve their skiing and snowboarding skills, and to enhance the safety and enjoyment of snow sports for all.

The Ski Patrol and Ranger Teams are hosting Safety Week in partnership with the National Ski Area Association and the Pennsylvania Ski Area Association January 15-23. For this program, we are hosting a poster contest, Chuck the Camel is handing out pamphlets and Ski Patrol and Ranger Patrol will be interacting with the guests in the lodges talking about safety and smart style safety within the CBK Terrain Park.

Tannersville, PA - Camelback Mountain Resort is looking forward to another great winter season and as demonstrated over the last 47 years, Camelback is passionately dedicated to the beginner skiers and snowboarders. This winter, an older beginner chairlift is being replaced with a state of the art people mover that makes the ride to the top of the beginner slope easier and more comfortable. The new "magic carpet" is similar to the moving walk-ways seen in airports.

Along with this new lift, Camelback's snowsports instructors are continually developing new teaching techniques for skier and snowboarders of all calibers. Autumn Timber Festival

Lumberjack Shows, Tethered Hot Air Balloon, Fall Foliage & More Oct. 9, & 10 at Shawnee Mountain Ski Area

Shawnee-on-Delaware, PQ - With the picturesque mountain as a backdrop during prime fall foliage time, the Autumn Timber Festival offers a weekend full of family friendly entertainment, music, food and festivities. Featured entertainment is the 2010 Timber Team Ironjack Shows. Each 45 minute show thrills spectators with both demonstration and competition as World Class Lumberjacks pole climb, log roll, chop, saw and chainsaw. A colorful announcer combines folk lore, comedy and history into each show to encourage a rowdy frontier spirit. Three shows will be performed daily.

Tethered Hot Air Balloon Rides will be available Saturday and Sunday afternoon. All Tethered Balloon Rides are available on a first come first served basis and are weather permitting.

On stage live musical entertainment will be provided Saturday and Sunday by The Cramer Brothers, a country show band with six multi-talented musicians performing contemporary country, classic country and Blue Grass. The Lost Ramblers, will stroll the festival grounds both Saturday and Sunday playing high energy Appalachian music that runs the gamut from bluegrass to gospel, swing and old time music in three part harmonies.

Festival Americana and novelty entertainers include David Fiemster’s “Sue Wee” Pig Racing, Magician Stephen Christopher’s Traveling Medicine Show, Paul Bunyon Stilt Walker, “Pie Man” the Living Statue, and balloon art by Aardvark Entertainment. Pro Rodeo Gallops into Shawnee!

Shawnee-on-Delaware, PA - Shawnee Mountain Ski Area, in association with the Barnes PRCA Rodeo, will host its 14th Annual Professional Rodeo on September 25 & 26, 2010 at Shawnee Mountain Ski Area.

Come and experience the thrill of the Pro Cowboys competing in six events, including Saddle Bronc Riding, Bull Riding, Bareback Bronc Riding, Calf Roping, Team Roping and Bull Dogging. These events are fully approved and sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and will feature Pros from the First Frontier Circuit competing for thousands of dollars in prize money. Sanctioned by the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association, women competitors will show their skills in the WPRA Barrel Race.

“Shawnee Mountain is a great location for a Professional Rodeo and we look forward to providing a quality family oriented event” commented Bob Barnes, Pro Rodeo Hall of Famer and owner of Barnes PRCA Rodeo.

The Shawnee Mountain Rodeo will begin at 2:00PM both Saturday and Sunday, September 25 & 26. Gates will open at 11:30AM with the 4th Annual Chili Cook-Off returning to kick off Saturday’s events. Included with admission from 11:30AM to 1:30PM, Rodeo goers will have the opportunity to sample and then vote on a variety of specially prepared chilis. From mild to hot to vegetarian to buffalo chili, samples will be served by area restaurants, food vendors and individual chefs. It’s people’s choice, one vote per admission, with a winner being announced during the Rodeo intermission on Saturday. The Cook-Off Winner will receive a cash prize of $200 and bragging rights!

Camelbeach Mountain Waterpark Hosts National Flowrider Tour

Tannersville, PA - Camelbeach Mountain Waterpark is hosting the 2010 National Wave Loch Flow Tour, Sunday, July 31st. The competition is open to riders of all ages and skill levels including stand up, body board and drop knee Flowboarding. The Camelbeach stop on the 31st will be a AA rated event. Since the Camelbeach stop is a AA event, it is worth double points toward qualification of the final event.

"We love hosting this tour because it attracts riders from across the country," said Jerry Lawlor, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Camelbeach Mountain Waterpark. He continued, "It is amazing to see the talent that is out there including our local riders."

CBK Mountain Adventures Launches Two Eight Story Zip Lines through Camelback Mountain Resort

Tannersville, PA - CBK Mountain Adventures, the latest attraction added at Camelback Mountain Resort, launches two 1000 foot zip lines on Sunday, August 1st. The two zip lines are the newest additions to the CBK Mountain Adventures park that opened Memorial Day Weekend 2010. There are also six tree top adventure courses that take you 30 to 50 feet up into the trees of Camelback Mountain Resort, mountain Segway tours, disc golf and more, for the adventure seeker coming to the Pocono Mountains.

"The zip lines are going to be absolutely amazing. You are eight stories off the ground at one point." said Arthur Berry, III, owner Camelback Mountain Resort. He continued, "It is a rush to be so high and zipping through the ski area."

Duck Race Series Scheduled at Camelbeach Mountain Waterpark

Tannersville, PA - Camelbeach Mountain Waterpark has selected three local charities for the Big Give 2010. Camelbeach is partnering with these charities to help raise money and have some fun at the same time. The three local charities are The Stroudsburg YMCA, The Sherman Theatre and The United Way of Monroe County.

Each charity has the opportunity to sell up to 500 ducks for $10 each before their race and the day of the race. 100% of the proceeds from the Duck Race Series will be donated to the respective charities. Each charity will also have a promo code to use to sell admission tickets for Camelbeach that are valid all summer, until September 6, 2010.

2nd Annual Poconos' Wurst Festival

Shawnee on Delaware, PA - Come experience the best of the wurst! Shawnee Mountain Ski Area will be hosting the 2nd Annual Poconos’ Wurst Festival this July 17th & 18th with all the brews, brats, and music you could want.

With both Polish and German themes, the event will feature 3 stages of music, traditional costumed dance performances, Dachsund “hot dog” races, ethnic craft vendors, and plenty of wursts, wieners, kielbasa, pierogies and crafted brews. Kids’ entertainment will also include “Ski” the Polish Magician, juggling shows and face painting.

Eighteen-time Grammy Award winning Jimmy Sturr and his Orchestra will be headlining the event. “America’s Polka King” will be performing on Saturday, July 17th with his ensemble on our main stage. Joe Stanky and the Cadets from Nanticoke, PA will also be playing on Saturday as well as The Austrian Boys German quartet from Connecticut and The Schwarzzenegger Connection from the Catskills region of New York. Sunday’s entertainment headliner will be Grammy Award winning Walt Groller and his Orchestra from southern Pennsylvania. This band, said to create the “happiest music in the world”, will have you clapping your hands, singing along, and dancing to traditional melodies and lively polkas. Also playing on the main stage on Sunday, one of the hardest working Polka bands in the Northeast, Pennsylvania’s own John Stanky and the Coalminers. The Schwarzzenegger Connection and The Austrian Boys will also join us again on Sunday, July 18th. Other entertainment will include Krzysztof the strolling Polish Accordion Player, the Janosik Polish Dance Ensemble from Philadelphia, PA on Saturday and the United German Hungarian Dancers from Langhorne, PA on Sunday. The Poconos’ Wurst 5K Trail Run will be held in conjunction with Sunday’s festivities. Benefiting the Pocono chapter of Girls on the Run, the race starts at 8:30am. The trail course is geared for beginner/novice runners and walkers and will be held on the grounds of the Ski Area on a tree lined open trail. Race participants will receive free admission to the festival on Sunday.

Camelback Mountain Resort Hosts Mountain Dew Vertical Challenge

Tannersville, PA - On Saturday, March 6, 2010, Camelback Mountain Resort will host the Mountain Dew Vertical Challenge Competition. Registration will begin at 8:00am in the Big Pocono Family Eatery and the race will begin at 11:00am with race awards and a victory party at 3:00pm. Admission is free with a lift ticket and open to all ages and abilities.
"In the past, the Mt. Dew Vertical Challenge has proven to be one of the most exciting events of the season. Camelback Mountain Resort Employees Wear Pink to Promote Early Detection of Breast Cancer

Tannersville, PA - Martin Hardy, a devoted snowboard instructor at Camelback Mountain Resort has pledged to refrain from the usual après ski activity of grabbing a beer after a long day on the mountain for the entire ski season in order to raise awareness for early detection of breast cancer. Hardy is doing this in support of a close friend that is continuing her valiant fight with breast cancer. He is not only raising money, but hoping to inspire others.
“This all started as a simple bet between Hardy and some friends and co-workers,” said Tony Keller, Director of Snow Sports School at Camelback Mountain Resort. He continued, “Now, he is raising money and awareness for this great cause. We are truly proud to wear the pink hats in support of his effort and breast cancer awareness.”

On Saturday, February 20th, Hardy hits his 50th “dry” day and has asked his fellow instructors and about 100 employees from the front desk to guest services at Camelback to show their support by wearing pink hats. He is raising money for Boarding for Breast Cancer (B4BC) and the local charity, Green Hope Charities.

Ski Roundtop Half Pipe Competition February 20, 2010

Lewisberry, PA - At Ski Roundtop we love snow!! However, natural snow makes it difficult to get air in a half pipe so we postponed our Half Pipe event until February 20th. The Half Pipe Competition is sponsored by Rockstar Energy drink with DJ Bo Nicki emceeing the event. Participants will get three runs and be judged on amplitude, style and difficulty of their chosen trick. Later in the afternoon, from 1-4 on February 20th, Hemlock Hollow will provide live outdoor Americana/Bluegrass/FolkRock music. On February 21, Autumn Brew has the courtyard for classic rock.

In response to requests, this season Ski Roundtop began an effort to create a festive winter wonderland. With liquor and food sales available outdoors in the main lodge courtyard and live music on the weekends, guests enjoying relaxing and swapping stories between runs. Shawnee Mountain Raises $2672 for Local Charities

Shawnee-on-Delaware, PA - Shawnee Mountain is pleased to announce its donation of all the proceeds from the Pennsylvania Learn to Ski Day held January 8 on the Ski Area’s Learning Center. A total of $997 was donated to the Bushkill Outreach. The Bushkill Outreach is a local food bank affiliated with the Reformed Church of Bushkill and St. John’s Catholic Church of Bushkill, PA.
Also on Sunday, Feb 8, Shawnee Mountain held its Annual Ski Race Against Cancer on the Upper Tomahawk NASTAR Race Trail. Race fee proceeds, along with individual donations raised $1675, all of which has been sent to Monroe County Chapter of the American Cancer Society.
