Snowshoe Mountain's Snowfall Surpasses Season Average

Snowshoe Mountain is experiencing a historic season, with 192 inches of snowfall total, surpassing the annual average of 180”!
Snowshoe, WV - Snowshoe Mountain Resort announced today that it’s snowfall total for the 2009/2010 season has surpassed it’s annual average of 180” with 192” since mid-October. In February alone, Snowshoe has see 80”, almost 45% of the resort’s seasonal average, with much of that coming in the last 11 days.
It has now been two good snow years in a row for the Pocahontas County ski resort, with over 200” of snow falling in the 2008/2009 season. But this year’s snow has come at more opportune times, with plenty of snow falling just prior to the Christmas holiday, as well as last week’s snowstorm, which dropped almost 30” of snow just before the Presidents’ Weekend Holiday, one of the biggest ski weekends of the year. And it looks like the snow isn’t stopping anytime soon, as the 15 day forecast for the resort is calling for more snow as we head into the month of March. Snowshoe averages 30” of snowfall in March.

All of this snow has created some of the best conditions in Snowshoe’s 36 year history. Across the resort’s 244 acres of skiable terrain, a 4 ft snow base is providing Western-like conditions to visitors of the West Virginia slopes. And colder and drier conditions this season have allow lighter, fluffier snow to fall much of the time at the resort, creating powder days Eastern skiers usually have to jump on a plane to experience. And Snowshoe announced earlier this week that the resort planes to remain open through April 5th, giving skiers and riders 6 more weeks to take advantage of the amazing conditions.
