Boreal Reopens for Summer Shred 2011

Donner Summit, CA - Dig into the garage to break-out your skis and snowboards. Boreal is reopening for one-day of snow fun under the summer sun. Thanks to the 800" snowfall season, we still have a ton of snow left on the mountain for you to shred.

To celebrate the announcement of Woodward Tahoe, Boreal will open the Castle Peak Quad accessing one run with one terrain park on July 23rd. Skiers and riders will be able to jump and jib under the summer sun from 9am - 2pm. Lift tickets will only be $25 for teens/adults (ages 13+) and $15 for children (ages 5-12). 2011/2012 season passes will be accepted

Donner Summit, CA - The 2010/11 ski season has been the longest on record at Boreal Mountain Resort. After a successful extension to an already exceptional season, Boreal will spin lifts for the final day of the 2010/11 season on Sunday, May 15, 2011. Make sure you get up to Boreal next weekend (Friday - Sunday) to enjoy the final days of skiing and riding.

For the final weekend Boreal will operate Accelerator Express Quad and Castle Peak Quad from 9am - 4pm, giving access to 28 trails and 3 terrain parks, plus Boreal’s top-rated Superpipe and the BagJump. Lift tickets on Friday will be $15 for everyone, Saturday and Sunday adult lift tickets will be discounted to $39. Playland Tubing is also available for families to enjoy; open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10am – 4pm and closing for the season after May 15, 2011.

Sale Extended thru April 24th

Donner Summit, CA - The Blow-Out Season Pass Sale has been extended thru April 24, 2011. Now you have even more time to save on your 2011/2012 season pass. Boreal will be operating daily until April 24th, then weekends only, Friday - Sunday, during May (conditions permitting). Buy your pass today and start enjoying the deep snow pack Boreal has this season. In most cases, when you ride 5 days will have "paid off" your pass, then the rest of this spring and all of 2011/2012 are essentially FREE.

Added Bonus: Beginning April 10th, all season pass restrictions will be lifted. This means night passholders can ride during the day, and college & Super Saver passes will be valid 7 days/week.

Share Your Best Snow Dance

Donner Summit, CA - With the weather turning colder there has been lots of discussion regarding snow dances. It has come to our attention there is no one way to snow dance. Some thrash about, while others do a new age rendition of snow falling to the ground. Even though Boreal's snowmaking system is ready to crank out snow when the temps drop there is no substitute for the real stuff, so start dancing and show Mother Nature that you want winter NOW!

Record Winter Season at Boreal Mountain Resort

Donner Summit, CA - Boreal Mountain Resort has closed the lifts for the final time this season capping off a record breaking ski season. Record snowfall, best ever season pass sales and strong skier counts, reminiscent of years past have made the 2009/2010 season memorable.

This winter Boreal Mountain Resort, located atop Donner Summit, received over 464 inches of snow with 56 inches coming in the last two weeks of operations. The winter storms blanketed the resort with light, dry powder before every major holiday allowing guests to drive I-80 reaching Boreal without any limitations. The cold El Nino winter also allowed Boreal to open the ski season earlier than ever, with operations beginning on October 9, 2009. “Installing a $1.2 million snowmaking system in 2008 made all the difference in breaking our opening record” said Jody Churich, General Manager at Boreal.

The large snowfall also helped boom season pass and ticket sales both day and night. Boreal Mountain Resort saw over a significant increase in night ticket sales. The Blow-Out Season Pass sale, which ended on Easter Day, finished 34% up over the previous season. “Guests were really excited to enjoy the great conditions,” said Shaydar Edelmann, Boreal Mountain Manger.

The most noticeable success at Boreal this season was its 1-2-3 Ride Free program. Beginning skiers and riders taking advantage of 1-2-3 Ride Free were able to take three lessons and get a free season pass upon completion of the program. Boreal was successful in converting over one thousand new skier and riders through three lessons. “This program has been an exciting opportunity for the instructors at Boreal,” said Nate Ellis, Snow Sports Manger. “It’s always nice see the same faces coming back for lessons and watching our guests grow from a beginner to a true skier or rider.”

Thanks to the success of the 2009/2010 season, Boreal will be hard at work over the summer. Over $1 million capital dollars have been allocated for projects including expanded snowmaking top-to-bottom, adding more night lighting, purchasing 2 new grooming machines and replacing the lodge windows as in environmental initiative.
