Boreal Reopens for Summer Shred 2011

Donner Summit, CA - Dig into the garage to break-out your skis and snowboards. Boreal is reopening for one-day of snow fun under the summer sun. Thanks to the 800" snowfall season, we still have a ton of snow left on the mountain for you to shred.

To celebrate the announcement of Woodward Tahoe, Boreal will open the Castle Peak Quad accessing one run with one terrain park on July 23rd. Skiers and riders will be able to jump and jib under the summer sun from 9am - 2pm. Lift tickets will only be $25 for teens/adults (ages 13+) and $15 for children (ages 5-12). 2011/2012 season passes will be accepted

Donner Summit, CA - The 2010/11 ski season has been the longest on record at Boreal Mountain Resort. After a successful extension to an already exceptional season, Boreal will spin lifts for the final day of the 2010/11 season on Sunday, May 15, 2011. Make sure you get up to Boreal next weekend (Friday - Sunday) to enjoy the final days of skiing and riding.

For the final weekend Boreal will operate Accelerator Express Quad and Castle Peak Quad from 9am - 4pm, giving access to 28 trails and 3 terrain parks, plus Boreal’s top-rated Superpipe and the BagJump. Lift tickets on Friday will be $15 for everyone, Saturday and Sunday adult lift tickets will be discounted to $39. Playland Tubing is also available for families to enjoy; open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10am – 4pm and closing for the season after May 15, 2011.

Sugar Bowl Resort to Host Fundraising Kids Terrain Park Comp Benefiting Kidzone Museum

Donner Summit, CA - Sugar Bowl Resort is hosting their final Caboose Kickers Kids' Terrain Park Competition of the season April 16th, benefiting the programs and exhibits of Truckee's KidZone Museum. The competition, for skiers and snowboarders ages 12 and under, is set to take place in the Caboose Park just above the Mt. Judah Day Lodge.

Registration for the event starts at 9am in the Mt Judah Lodge near the fireplace; entry is $15. Each registered participant will receive a 50% off lift ticket voucher and a BBQ voucher. The competition starts at 11am with prizes awarded to 1st-4th place winners.

Snow play activities will be available for little ones, as well as a fundraising raffle for a KidZone Birthday Party and a 2011/2012 Sugar Bowl Season Pass.

Sugar Bowl Extends Season to May 1st

Norden, CA - Due to the season's incredible snowfall and continued great conditions, Sugar Bowl Resort has decided to extend its season to Sunday, May 1st. 2011/2012 Season Passes are now on sale and offer free skiing and riding through closing day of the 10/11 season. Additional pass perks include 25,000 bonus CORE points when purchasing pass by June 1st, free rentals (ages 3 and up) and free lessons (ages 4 on up) on all General Admission Days (every day for the remainder of the 10/11 season), and $50 off passes when current passholders use 50,000 CORE points from their 10/11 account. The Lodge at Sugar Bowl, the Dining Room and the Gondola will close as previously scheduled on April 24th.

Spring at Sugar Bowl offers additional CORE Appreciation Days on April 16 & 19th with $39 lift tickets for Daily CORE Pass holders, and Easter weekend festivities including a Golden Egg Hunt and live music on the Mt Judah Lodge deck.

Sugar Bowl Resort Hosts Final Stop of 2011 Rahlves' Banzai Tour

Season Pass Restrictions Lifted and Core Appreciation Day Added for the Weekend

Norden, CA - The 2011 Rahlves' Banzai Tour comes home to Sugar Bowl for the final stop of the season with the famed Silver Belt Banzai and Rahlves Super Finals. After successful tour stops at Alpine Meadows and Kirkwood and with a $30,000 prize purse on the line at Sugar Bowl, the Silver Belt Banzai is sure to be 2011's most exciting on-snow event.

150 of the best skiers and riders from around the globe will race in Saturday’s time trial qualifiers down the famed Silver Belt Gully, hoping to be fast enough down the course to advance into Sunday’s Banzai racing format, which pits 4 racers at once battling down the course with limited rules but to stay on course and finish in the top two spots to advance to the next round. Winners take home the prized Silver Belt Banzai buckles and their share of the $10,000 prize purse, with an additional $10,000 awarded to the overall tour point leaders. Following the finals, Daron Rahlves himself will challenge the three men's ski winners from each tour stop to a one run, winner-take-all $10,000 Super Final. Recognizing the event's festive vibe and fan friendly atmosphere, Sugar Bowl will be lifting all Season Pass restrictions for the Banzai weekend, meaning any and all Sugar Bowl season passholders will be welcome to enjoy the Banzai racing, parties, bbq’s and awards, even if their Season Pass was otherwise blacked out for this weekend. In addition, Sugar Bowl will offer any 2010/2011 season pass holders from other ski resorts a free CORE Daily Pass on Saturday and Sunday of the Banzai weekend only, a $19 value, giving a $12 savings on lifts tickets for the remainder of the season. Raises Funds for Breast and Ovarian Cancer Research
Norden, CA - Sugar Bowl is teaming up with Boarding for Breast Cancer and The HERA Foundation for the fourth annual Shred the Love on February 26, 2011. Formerly know as “Jam 4 the Cure”, the resort is holding a rail jam in the Switching Yard Terrain Park, with all entry fees from the event going toward the education, prevention and awareness of breast cancer and ovarian cancer. Marcus Caston Wins First Stop of Rahlves Banzai Tour

Lake Tahoe, CA - This past Sunday, under sunny skies and warm temps, on a fast and firm race course that included challenging steeps, rollers and berms, some of the best skiers and riders in the game gathered atop Alpine Meadows' Beaver Bowl for the first stop in the 2011 Rahlves' Banzai Tour.

124 skiers and riders competed in Saturday's qualifiers, with 74 athletes moving on to Sunday's finals. Competitors and spectators alike were treated to a festive Banzai party at the River Ranch Lodge on Saturday evening and a celebratory finish corral after Sunday's finals with the winners claiming their take of the $10,000 purse.

Kirkwood Mountain Resort will host the next stop on the Rahlves' Banzai Tour, with the Eagle Bowl Banzai February 5 & 6th. The resort's Eagle Bowl promises to offer another exciting and challenging course.

The grand finale of Banzai will return home to Sugar Bowl on March 12 & 13th with the historic Silver Belt Banzai, the Overall Tour Final and Super Final winner-take-all.

Sugar Bowl Announces Environmental Awareness Day

Norden, CA - Environmental Day returns to Sugar Bowl Resort on January 29, 2011. Environmental Day is designed to educate guests on what the resort is doing to chill winter and pass along education tips that can be used in their own homes. The resort will have a Vendor Village set-up on the Mt. Judah Deck sponsored by local businesses and organizations that will be at the resort educating guests on how to decrease their carbon footprint and live greener lifestyles. Mark Twain Motherlode Festival – Witness history! Twain is BACK!

Bear Valley, CA - The Mark Twain Gold Rush Festival celebrates the colorful history of the Mother Lode and honors the legacy of America’s most renowned writer and humorist. 2010 marks the 175th anniversary of Samuel Clemens birth and the centennial of his death. His 88-day sojourn in the Mother Lode during the winter of 1864-1865 filled his notebooks with observations that captured the spirit and personalities of the time. The famous Jumping Frog story, which came from those notebooks, provided Clemens his first taste of national fame as “Mark Twain” and remains the most well read of all his publications. The Mother Lode has changed less than any of the places in this country where Clemens lived and worked. It is still possible to retrace his footsteps along historical trails, to visit some of the same buildings he frequented while here, and to see the place much as it appeared to a young journalist and aspiring author when it was aflame with Gold Rush fever.

Donner Summit, CA - Sugar Bowl Resort extends its popular fine dining experience by hosting four additional Saturday evening dinners this September at the exclusive Lake Mary Cabin, with portions of each evening’s proceeds benefiting local non-profit organizations. September 18 – Gateway Mountain Center: The Gateway Mountain Center produces programs to increase eco-literacy, health and empowerment in today's youth. Serving over 1,000 students annually from around Northern California and providing ongoing leadership, adventure and wellness programs for at-risk teens in the Truckee/North Tahoe region.

September 25 – Sierra Avalanche Center: The mission of the Sierra Avalanche Center includes disseminating current snow pack stability information to the general public; providing educational information, knowledge, and understanding of avalanches to recreational users and groups; and facilitating communication in the region to reduce the impact of avalanches on recreation, industry, and transportation through a partnership with the United States Forest Service.

July 31 - Sugar Bowl Academy - Sugar Bowl Academy offers a comprehensive college preparatory curriculum, complete with AP classes, lab sciences, and fine arts electives, which provides high standards for personal achievement and responsibility. The curriculum is designed to give students academic competence, a life-long love of learning, and the skills needed to excel in their future opportunities.

August 7 - Arts for the Schools - Arts for the Schools provides high quality arts learning opportunities in our schools, and presents world-class musicians, dancers and other performers for the community at large.
