Donner Summit, CA - Sugar Bowl had a successful opening weekend and with snowmaking temperatures in the future, they'll reopen for operations on December 3 & 4, 2011.

Conditions permitting, operational plans will be:

Open through the Judah Portal only, with both White Pine and Jerome Hill lifts spinning.

Sugar Bowl Resort to Host Fundraising Kids Terrain Park Comp Benefiting Kidzone Museum

Donner Summit, CA - Sugar Bowl Resort is hosting their final Caboose Kickers Kids' Terrain Park Competition of the season April 16th, benefiting the programs and exhibits of Truckee's KidZone Museum. The competition, for skiers and snowboarders ages 12 and under, is set to take place in the Caboose Park just above the Mt. Judah Day Lodge.

Registration for the event starts at 9am in the Mt Judah Lodge near the fireplace; entry is $15. Each registered participant will receive a 50% off lift ticket voucher and a BBQ voucher. The competition starts at 11am with prizes awarded to 1st-4th place winners.

Snow play activities will be available for little ones, as well as a fundraising raffle for a KidZone Birthday Party and a 2011/2012 Sugar Bowl Season Pass.

Sugar Bowl Extends Season to May 1st

Norden, CA - Due to the season's incredible snowfall and continued great conditions, Sugar Bowl Resort has decided to extend its season to Sunday, May 1st. 2011/2012 Season Passes are now on sale and offer free skiing and riding through closing day of the 10/11 season. Additional pass perks include 25,000 bonus CORE points when purchasing pass by June 1st, free rentals (ages 3 and up) and free lessons (ages 4 on up) on all General Admission Days (every day for the remainder of the 10/11 season), and $50 off passes when current passholders use 50,000 CORE points from their 10/11 account. The Lodge at Sugar Bowl, the Dining Room and the Gondola will close as previously scheduled on April 24th.

Norden, CA - The 2011 Rahlves' Banzai Tour comes home to Sugar Bowl for the final stop of the season with the famed Silver Belt Banzai and Rahlves Super Finals. After successful tour stops at Alpine Meadows and Kirkwood and with a $30,000 prize purse on the line at Sugar Bowl, the Silver Belt Banzai is sure to be 2011's most exciting on-snow event.

150 of the best skiers and riders from around the globe will race in Saturday’s time trial qualifiers down the famed Silver Belt Gully, hoping to be fast enough down the course to advance into Sunday’s Banzai racing format, which pits 4 racers at once battling down the course with limited rules but to stay on course and finish in the top two spots to advance to the next round. Winners take home the prized Silver Belt Banzai buckles and their share of the $10,000 prize purse, with an additional $10,000 awarded to the overall tour point leaders. Following the finals, Daron Rahlves himself will challenge the three men's ski winners from each tour stop to a one run, winner-take-all $10,000 Super Final. Recognizing the event's festive vibe and fan friendly atmosphere, Sugar Bowl will be lifting all Season Pass restrictions for the Banzai weekend, meaning any and all Sugar Bowl season passholders will be welcome to enjoy the Banzai racing, parties, bbq’s and awards, even if their Season Pass was otherwise blacked out for this weekend. In addition, Sugar Bowl will offer any 2010/2011 season pass holders from other ski resorts a free CORE Daily Pass on Saturday and Sunday of the Banzai weekend only, a $19 value, giving a $12 savings on lifts tickets for the remainder of the season. Marcus Caston Wins First Stop of Rahlves Banzai Tour

Lake Tahoe, CA - This past Sunday, under sunny skies and warm temps, on a fast and firm race course that included challenging steeps, rollers and berms, some of the best skiers and riders in the game gathered atop Alpine Meadows' Beaver Bowl for the first stop in the 2011 Rahlves' Banzai Tour.

124 skiers and riders competed in Saturday's qualifiers, with 74 athletes moving on to Sunday's finals. Competitors and spectators alike were treated to a festive Banzai party at the River Ranch Lodge on Saturday evening and a celebratory finish corral after Sunday's finals with the winners claiming their take of the $10,000 purse.

Kirkwood Mountain Resort will host the next stop on the Rahlves' Banzai Tour, with the Eagle Bowl Banzai February 5 & 6th. The resort's Eagle Bowl promises to offer another exciting and challenging course.

The grand finale of Banzai will return home to Sugar Bowl on March 12 & 13th with the historic Silver Belt Banzai, the Overall Tour Final and Super Final winner-take-all.

Sugar Bowl Announces Environmental Awareness Day

Norden, CA - Environmental Day returns to Sugar Bowl Resort on January 29, 2011. Environmental Day is designed to educate guests on what the resort is doing to chill winter and pass along education tips that can be used in their own homes. San Francisco Independant Film Festival Returns to Sugar Bowl Resort

Norden, CA - The San Francisco Independent Film Festival returns to Sugar Bowl Resort Friday, February 26th and Saturday, February 27th, screening four critically acclaimed films and one award winning locally-produced documentary at the Judah Lodge. Films will be screened at 7:00pm and 9:00pm both nights, with the local documentary Open Space screened between the two feature-length films on Saturday night. Two films, My Movie Girl and Open Space, will include special introductions plus question and answer sessions with directors and cast. All movies are free to the public, and all attendees will receive a free 2009/10 Daily CORE Pass to Sugar Bowl, a $19 value.

Sugar Bowl Resort to Run Legendary Silver Belt Banzai

Norden, CA - Top freeride skiers and riders from around the world will descend upon Lake Tahoe’s Sugar Bowl Resort March 13th and 14th, 2010 for the running of the Silver Belt Banzai, a unique race blending the excitement of ski-cross/boarder-x action with the tradition of a downhill race. Starting atop Sugar Bowl’s famed Silver Belt Gully, skiers and riders will race out of the gate in four and six-person heats with the simple rules of staying on course and finishing fast enough to beat the other racers and advance to the next round. Up to 100 skiers and riders ages 16 and up, both men’s and women’s divisions, will compete in the race. Qualifying heats will be run on Saturday March 13th, with winners earning a spot in Sunday’s final races and a chance for cash prizes. Entry fees are set at $100 per racer, which includes a lift ticket valid for the first day of racing, and both days of racing should the competitor advance to Sunday’s finals. If a lift ticket is not needed, entry fees are set at $50 per racer for the event.
Celebrating its 70th season, Sugar Bowl is steeped in tradition and history, and the Silver Belt Downhill is an integral part of the resort’s storied past. Dating back to 1940, for many years the race was considered the preeminent North American race for skiing’s elite. Racers would travel from their home resorts to compete for top honors on the challenging course, always finishing the event with a legendary celebration. The 2010 race will keep the tradition alive, enticing today’s top skiers and riders by incorporating racing’s latest discipline of skicross and boarder-X action. Sugar Bowl Celebrates 70 Years of Skiing and Boarding

Donner Summit, CA - Since 1939, Sugar Bowl Resort has offered some of the finest skiing and riding in the Tahoe region. To celebrate 70 years atop Donner Summit, the venerable resort will host a weekend of festivities January 29th – 31st, including special lift ticket rates, prize giveaways, apres music, on-mountain trivia challenges and an official opening ceremony for the new Summit Chair. Local favorites Truckee Tribe will play the Judah Lodge on Saturday afternoon, and Sugar Bowl’s own Daron Rahlves will race toward SkierX gold at the X Games in Aspen with special viewing parties at the Judah Lodge.
Opening for business on December 15, 1939 with a light layer of snow and the first chairlift in California, Sugar Bowl’s founders were true pioneers of Tahoe skiing. Lift tickets that first season were 25 cents to ride up and down, or $2 if you were skiing Mount Disney. Founder Hannes Schroll envisioned a European-style ski resort filled with family and friends, great food and drink, and of course exceptional skiing. Schroll’s vision is now a reality, with 13 lifts servicing four distinct peaks, 95 trails across 1,500 acres, three progressive terrain parks, a historic base-area Lodge, and a staff dedicated to the guest’s experience. Sugar Bowl to Host Two Sanctioned U.S. Skiing FIS Nor-Am Cup Ski-Cross Competitions

Donner Summit, CA – Sugar Bowl Resort announced today that it will host two sanctioned U.S. Skiing FIS Nor-Am Cup ski-cross competitions February 1-3, 2010. Top-level ski-cross competitors from around the world will descend upon Sugar Bowl to race the new ski-cross course on the Tunnel 41 trail, located off the Mt. Judah Express quad chair. A relatively new discipline to sanctioned ski competitions, Sugar Bowl ambassador and ski-cross competitor Daron Rahlves explained that “ski-cross is four man heats racing head to head on a motocross inspired layout, debuting for the first time in the Winter Olympics this February. I'll compete in the FIS events and then train with the US Ski-Cross Team at Sugar Bowl leading up to the Vancouver Games”. The two Sugar Bowl ski-cross competitions follow other Nor-Am Cup competitions being held in Sun Valley, Idaho and Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid, New York. Following the two FIS Nor-Am Cup ski-cross races, the US Ski-Cross Team will train at Sugar Bowl February 13-17, 2010. The ski-cross course will then be detuned and opened for public skiing and riding.

For the FIS ski-cross races, United States competitors must have both a current USSA membership and a FIS license, while international competitors are required to carry a FIS license complete with inscription by their home nation. Entry fees are $185 for both days, or $115 for single-day racing. February 1st will be a training day, with sanctioned competitions scheduled for February 2nd and 3rd. Spectators are welcomed and encouraged to attend, with numerous on-course viewing areas to enjoy the action.

Sugar Bowl Opens New 'Summit Chair', Skiers and Riders to Enjoy Lift-Serviced Juhah Bowl

Norden, CA – The recent winter storm that left behind more than four feet of snow on Sugar Bowl Resort, coupled with the current storm that added 10 inches more, has improved skiing and riding conditions enough for the Summit Chair to open earlier than anticipated. The CTEC-built Garraventa fixed-grip quad, rising 420 vertical feet, will make its debut at Sugar Bowl Resort on Wednesday, December 23rd. Skiers and riders can access the new chairlift by riding the Mt. Judah Express lift, then skiing a short distance to the new lift’s bottom terminal. Accessing the expert-only runs of the Judah Bowl, the new chairlift also improves lift service to Sugar Bowl’s impressive sidecountry terrain, with the new Backcountry Adventure Center taking skiers and riders on professionally-guided powder tours, teaching the skills needed for safe backcountry travel. The Summit Chair was installed at Sugar Bowl this past summer, employing environmental installation techniques that helped earn Sugar Bowl an “A” rating in this year’s environmental review from the Ski Area Citizens Coalition. The Summit chair is the resort’s 13th lift and the first to be installed at Sugar Bowl since the Mt. Lincoln Express upgrade in 2000. The resort has also planned an official celebration for the new Summit Chair on January 30th, part of Sugar Bowl’s 70th anniversary festivities.
