Greek Peak Ski Area Reopens!

Cortland, NY - Lake Effect Snow and good snomaking weather have allowed us to reopen the mountain.

Greek Peak Mountain Resort wants you and your family to celebrate your New Year with us! With two party locations, kids activities, Crossroads the Clown, Fireworks and a Torchlight Procession, you are almost guaranteed a night to remember.

Finger Lakes Yoga Festival

Cortland, NY - Hope Lake Lodge at Greek Peak Mountain Resort will be hosting the Finger Lakes Yoga Festival. This event will feature over 30 classes, with over 15 teachers hailing from all over New York State. Promoters hope to draw a crowd, and create an annual event to bring together New York's well established yoga community.

"This festival is the first of its kind" says Mathew Ingles, festival director and local yoga instructor. "We have worked hard to create an event where anyone can have a good time, yogi, or not. We want people to bring family and friends, and we want everyone to have fun."

Festival planners think this event will be a boost to the local economy. Ingles, who teaches power yoga in Ithaca, Dryden, and Cortland says, "People will be traveling into the local communities, shopping, lodging, going on wine tours, and taking part in tourist activities." Yoga is a growing business, and no doubt this event will also bolster student numbers for local yoga studios. The festival will also be providing funds to local charities.

The weekend will be three days of nonstop classes, three and four classes at a time, so people get to choose what they want to do. From six a.m. to midnight, classes will be starting about every two hours. Yoga classes for beginners, and the more advanced. Also, classes in meditation, belly dancing, nutrition, and fire dancing will be offered. "You can pick and choose what you would like to do and what classes you want to take, it's like a yoga salad bar", says Ingles.

On Sunday, April 11th we are offering a Wine Tour to Cayuga Lake in the beautiful Finger Lakes Region. 11:00am - 5:00pm. $35 per person (lunch included). Valid ID required. Hope Lake Lodge and Arcadia Village Owners/Guests get initial access to wine tour reservations.

Fighting Cancer On The Slopes

Cortland, NY - Scott Glasemann knows that health can sometimes be a slippery slope. As a cancer survivor, he’s using his experience to raise money on a different slope - the ski slope. On March 6, 2010, Scott will participate in the American Cancer Society’s 5th Annual Hope on the Slopes event hosted at Greek Peak Mountain Resort in Cortland, NY.

Scott, a scientist from Caton, NY, knows all too well the devastating effects of cancer. His mother died from lung cancer at the young age of 58. In the years following his mom’s death, his grandfather died from prostate cancer, and his father-in-law, stepfather, and uncle were all diagnosed with prostate cancer. Then in 2008, Scott heard the same words himself. It was his wedding anniversary and Scott was in the car when he got the call to come into his urologist’s office. From that moment on his life changed forever. “I remember thinking then, as I hung up the phone, that I’ll never forget that drive,” he said.

Scott says that even though so many family members had cancer, he never did anything to raise money or help the American Cancer Society until he was diagnosed. “As a scientist, something in me is stirring to help raise money for more prostate cancer research and awareness,” he said. Last year Scott heard about Hope On The Slopes and realized it was the perfect way to combine his love for skiing and his passion for raising money for cancer research.

At Hope On The Slopes skiers and snowboarders can hit the slopes, raising money for the American Cancer Society by participating in this winter Relay For Life. Participants in a summer Relay For Life event walk a track for 24-hours, celebrating life and honoring loved ones lost to cancer. Hope on the Slope is a unique event that will combine sports enthusiasts’ love of snow with their desire to make a difference in the fight against cancer.

Greek Peak Mountain Resort to Host Media Appreciation Day

Greek Peak will host a Media Appreciation Day on December 19th and invites representatives from all media outlets and their families to spend a free day at the resort to learn about all of the resort’s offerings and future plans. The event is also an opportunity to thank the media representatives for the coverage that they provided in promoting past Greek Peak programs and events.

“Media Appreciation Day really gives us a chance to speak one on one with media reps and put a face with the news.”, states Kevin Morrin, Director of Sales and Marketing.“ “More importantly, it gives them an opportunity to experience Greek Peak first hand and have fun while doing it.”
