Federal District Court Rules in Snowbowl's Favor?

Flagstaff, AZ - Arizona Snowbowl, on behalf of its skiers and supporters is very pleased that its position and that of the U.S. Forest Service has been upheld, once again by the Courts. Snowbowl looks forward to starting construction of the snowmaking system, and plans to proceed in cooperation with the Forest Service once the weather and other conditions permit. The project will benefit Flagstaff as a whole with respect to the creation of construction jobs and an increase in winter visitors once the project is complete.

Eric Borowsky, general partner, had the following reaction to the District Court's most recent decision: "Snowbowl will proceed as it has in the past, in accordance with the legal process and Forest Service approval. We appreciate the time and effort that Judge Murguia put into deciding this case. We are disappointed that these plaintiffs plan yet another appeal, but we are confident that the outcome of the District Court will be upheld. The people who brought this suit, and others of like mind, appear determined to try and stop this snowmaking project despite the fact that the Courts, in two separate cases, the first of which went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, have determined that the snowmaking project meets all legal requirements".

Family Fridays Continue at Snowbowl

Flagstaff, AZ - With the success of the popular Family Fridays at the Arizona Snowbowl this past winter season, Snowbowl is continuing the program throughout the summer. They will be offering a 50% discount on all Scenic Skyride tickets and 10% off food and non-alcoholic beverages on Friday afternoons, from 2:00 - 4:00 PM.

"This program has been very popular the past few winters and now we are extending the program to summer so local families can take advantage of this opportunity like they did during the winter. Flagstaff, AZ - The Arizona Snowbowl will be opening for summer operations on Saturday, May 29, 2010. The Scenic Skyride will begin daily operations from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The Peak Side Café will be open for lunch or a refreshing beverage.

Boasting the best views of the vast San Francisco Peaks volcanic field and beyond to the Grand Canyon, the spectacular Scenic Skyride rises from the fragrant ponderosa pine forest every day through the Labor Day weekend. On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, Interpretive Rangers will be stationed at the top of the Skyride providing interpretive talks about the history and geology of the area. Attending one of these presentations is a wonderful educational experience.

"We are excited to get summer operations started and the Skyride is always a great adventure for the entire family. Now that it is starting to warm up, this is the perfect way to cool down. We still have plenty of snow at the top and I'm sure you will see people making snowmen or having a fun snowball fight for the next few weeks," states Dave Smith, Snowbowl's Marketing Director.

Snowbowl Tops Record Season with National Safety Award

Flagstaff, AZ - The National Ski Area Association (NSAA) has announced that the Arizona Snowbowl has won the prestigious Best Overall Safety Award for ski areas across the nation with less than 250,000 skier visits. This is the second consecutive year the resort has won this award. Additionally, Snowbowl participated in NSAA's 11th Annual National Safety Week, which was held January 16 - 22, 2010.
Snowbowl's Safety Initiative was "BAAH", Be Alert, Accidents Hurt, with Sammy the Safety Sheep as their mascot. They will accept their award at NSAA's National Convention Awards Ceremony in May. Snowbowl was one of twelve resorts chosen out of the 326 NSAA member resorts to win a Safety Award. They will also be highlighted in the NSAA Journal in their August edition.

"This is a huge honor to have our program named as "Best in the Industry" two years in a row," states Jon Gauld, Snowbowl's Safety Supervisor. "We couldn't have done it without our dedicated staff and supportive community. The best part was seeing our local kids skiing and riding safely, setting the example for children visiting our resort. They really got behind our program and love "Sammy" the S.H.E.E.P."

Snowbowl implemented a season long safety initiative which included; buttons, bandanas, banners, posters and Smart Style terrain park clinics. The safety program will continue next season with plans to further educate employees and guests about Slope Safety. Their Safety Committee is comprised of one person from each of the resort's thirteen departments.

Snowbowl to Open for One More Weekend!

Flagstaff, AZ - Arizona Snowbowl will extend the season for one final weekend with the Agassiz Lift operating from 10 AM to 4 PM all three days. With 5 to 7 feet of snow remaining on the trails and strong continued demand the resort decided today on the extension. No beginner trails will be open. The Sunset Terrain Park will be redesigned to provide access to the Agassiz chairlift.
"The great season and fun are continuing, it is obvious the avid skiers and snowboarders just don't want it to end," states Dave Smith, Snowbowl Marketing Director. "I encourage everyone to come up and enjoy the warm days, soft snow, and festive atmosphere as we wind down what will be a record season. We have had so much support from the local community this season we want to provide our guests with a bonus weekend".

In addition to Agassiz Lift and Agassiz Lodge being open, the Hart Prairie Lodge Rental facility and Guest Services Office will also be open. Ski School lessons will only be available for intermediate and expert skiers.

Discounted Lift Tickets are available on-line for $25 at www.ArizonaSnowbowl.com. Walk up Lift Ticket rates will be discounted to $39 for adults, Juniors ages 8-12 will ski FREE with an Adult lift ticket purchase. Tickets for Students with a valid ID will be $25.

Spring Hours Start March 29

Flagstaff, AZ - The Arizona Snowbowl has announced their closing date of April 11, 2010. The resort will remain open with daily operations through April 4, and then reopen for one final weekend, April 9-11 (they will be closed April 5-8). They will change their lift operation hours to 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM starting Monday, March 29.

"It has been such an incredible season! We still have over 8 feet of snow on the upper mountain and right now the spring skiing is incredible," states Dave Smith, Snowbowl's Marketing Director. "With the resort opening at 10:00 AM, it gives the snow time to soften up from the overnight freeze and reflects the behavior of the skiers. The demand drops predictably every season so we match our operation to that demand."

Snowbowl will offer 50% off breakfast which includes FREE coffee, hot cocoa or fountain drink from 8:30-10:00 AM.

Their very popular Family Fridays will continue April 2 and April 9. Both the Hart Prairie & Sunset lift will operate until 6:00 PM. Starting at 2:00 PM, lift tickets and rental equipment are only $10 each.

Snowbowl Prepares for National Safety Week

Flagstaff, AZ - The National Ski Area Association's 11th annual National Safety Week is January 16-22, 2010. During the Week, over 50% of the 326 member ski resorts participate in many different ways to encourage slope safety.
During the 2008-2009 winter season, the Arizona Snowbowl's Safety Committee, which is employee driven, came up with the phrase, BAAH! (Be Alert, Accidents Hurt) and stars Sammi and Stella, the Safety Sheep. Their efforts earned them their first ever National Safety Award for the Best Overall Safety Program for 2009.
This year, Snowbowl is planning to kick off National Safety week activities on Saturday January 16, 2010 with their new "Safety Camp" as the center piece of the event! They will have activities for all ages, engaging employees and guests to think about safety both on the slopes, in the lodges and at work. During Safety Week, children and young adults will be asked of their knowledge of the skier/rider responsibility code "Winter Rules!". Those that know the "Winter Rules" or learn the rules will receive a "Safety Pass", which will entitle them to discounts in the lodges and at our mountain retail shops. In addition to the discounts, a free mid-week lift ticket will be given to the first 250 participants.
