Winter Park Celebrates 70th and Mary Jane's Birthday

Winter Park, CO - Winter Park Resort and the Winter Park - Fraser Valley Chamber of Commerce are rolling all the January events into one weekend, a three day Winter Carnival to celebrate the resort’s 70th anniversary and Mary Jane’s birthday bash , January 22-24, 2010.
The celebration starts on Friday, Jan. 22 at 7p.m. with the 27th Annual Chef’s Cup Dinner and Dance, benefiting Winter Park Competition Center youth programs. This annual event showcases food from the finest chefs and restaurants located throughout Grand County. Attendees can enjoy a silent auction, cocktails, live music, dancing and sampling of area chefs’ best dishes as they compete for your approval for the People’s Choice award. Advance tickets are $55 per person, 2 tickets for $100 or $65 per ticket at the door and include complimentary beer and wine along with unlimited sampling. On Saturday and Sunday, the party continues on the slopes of Mary Jane with free bump tips, a snow sculpture contest, live music, après ski party in Club Car Restaurant and birthday cake in honor of the late-1800s lady of the evening. Mary Jane is best known for her steeps, deeps and VW-size moguls- epitomizing what winter in Winter Park, Colorado is all about.
The weekend is a county-wide celebration; along with activities at Winter Park Resort, guests can enjoy dog sled racing, skijoring, snowshoeing, plus other winter fun throughout each day in the town of Winter Park and Grand Park located in Fraser.
As night falls on Saturday, the party moves to Main Street in Winter Park as Hwy 40 becomes the epicenter of the celebration with music in Hideaway Park, a parade of lights and the highlight of spectacular fireworks overhead. Music begins at 4pm, parade begins at 6pm.

Belleayre Presents Winter Festival Week and 'Taste of the Town'

Highmount, NY - Belleayre will be a busy place this week and next as we prepare to kick off our annual Winter Festival Week this Saturday, January 23 with the Kids Winter Carnival and a Slopestyle Park Jam sponsored by Stoked Mentoring. All week, a variety of activities are slated in communities around the area including parades, bonfires, skating parties and more. And we will again offer the popular "Taste of the Town" on Monday, January 25. Snowbowl Prepares for National Safety Week

Flagstaff, AZ - The National Ski Area Association's 11th annual National Safety Week is January 16-22, 2010. During the Week, over 50% of the 326 member ski resorts participate in many different ways to encourage slope safety.
During the 2008-2009 winter season, the Arizona Snowbowl's Safety Committee, which is employee driven, came up with the phrase, BAAH! (Be Alert, Accidents Hurt) and stars Sammi and Stella, the Safety Sheep. Their efforts earned them their first ever National Safety Award for the Best Overall Safety Program for 2009.
This year, Snowbowl is planning to kick off National Safety week activities on Saturday January 16, 2010 with their new "Safety Camp" as the center piece of the event! They will have activities for all ages, engaging employees and guests to think about safety both on the slopes, in the lodges and at work. During Safety Week, children and young adults will be asked of their knowledge of the skier/rider responsibility code "Winter Rules!". Those that know the "Winter Rules" or learn the rules will receive a "Safety Pass", which will entitle them to discounts in the lodges and at our mountain retail shops. In addition to the discounts, a free mid-week lift ticket will be given to the first 250 participants.

Skiers and riders will all be challenged by these questions and rewarded with answers and free prizes January 16-22, 2010 when Sun Valley celebrates the National Ski Area’s Association “National Safety Week.”
A heads-up, fun approach will be taken to heighten the awareness of slope safety in Sun Valley – on Baldy, at the new Super Pipe, in Dollar Mountain’s new Terrain Park and throughout both mountains.
And, the Smartstyle message will go off-mountain and into the classroom when the Sun Valley Ski Patrol, avalanche dogs and Terrain Park personnel meet students at Hemingway and Hailey Elementary schools. Third, fourth and fifth graders at Hemingway will be visited Tuesday, January 19 and the same grades at Hailey Elementary School will host the Sun Valley Mountain Dept. staff Wednesday, January 20, 2010.
Because Sun Valley Resort takes the safety and well being of its guests very seriously, skiers and riders on Dollar and Baldy will be invited to participate in a variety of safety oriented activities throughout “National Safety Week.”

Local Athletes Win Big at New Year's Eve Rockin' Rail Jam

Whitefish, MT - Whitefish Mountain Resort's Freestyle Ski and Snowboard Team took home wins in four of eight divisions at last week's New Year's Eve Rockin' Rail Jam, the team's first event of the season.
The 5th Annual Rail Jam took place on terrain park features, including rails and boxes, which were specially set up on the slopes above Ed & Mully's Lounge for the event. A record sixty-five registered contestants did their best to impress judges with style and skill in two half-hour jam sessions; one each for snowboarders and skiers.

Each discipline was split into four divisions: Women's Amateur, Boys' Amateur, Men's Amateur and and Open class.
The Whitefish Mountain Resort Freestyle Team, coming off of an intensive four-day Holiday Training Camp, produced four first-place finishes: Marley Rodwick (Women's Ski AM), Ryan Heaverland (Men's Snowboard AM), Parkin Costain (Boys Ski AM), and Braedon Ortt (Boys Snowboard AM).
