Sun Valley is 100% Open!


Sun Valley, ID - Thanks to an abundance of early snowfall, 100% of Sun Valley’s ski terrain will be open tomorrow, Wednesday, December 22.
“We’re very excited to report epic ski conditions for this time of year. Our 75th winter season could not be off to a better start,” Peter Stearns, Sun Valley Resort Mountain Manager, said.

Sun Valley Resort and Apple’s Bar & Grill HOSTS the Idaho PREMIERE OF THE STORY AT Apple’s, October 22 2010

Sun Valley, ID - The Sun Valley Premiere of The Ski Channel Film Tour’s THE STORY comes to the Apple’s Bar and Grill in Warm Springs on Friday, October 22. “The Story” features mountain sports’ biggest stars including the marquee athletes of alpine skiing, Bode Miller, Lindsey Vonn, and X Games phenom Bobby Brown. It is the personal narratives and mesmerizing alpine backdrops that tell the tale of those who devote their lives to the mountain. The feature HD film, THE STORY, anchors the slate of films presented by The Ski Channel on the first annual Ski Channel Film Tour.

Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and the show starts at 6:00 p.m. Tickets for the premiere are $10.00 at the door.

“The Story” was shot on location in Mt. Everest, Nepal, the Antarctic Peninsula, Portillo, Chile and Las LeƱas, Argentina. The film takes viewers on an incredible journey down sky-scraper steep first descents in Haines, Alaska and to iconic ski resorts like Mammoth Mountain, Whistler Blackcomb, Jackson Hole, Snowbird, Grand Targhee, Deer Valley and Vail. Through poignant stories and epic skiing, snowboarding, river surfing and unimaginable variations of human flight, the film explores the intangible feeling that drives those who devote their lives to the mountains.

“The film is a celebration and character study of some of the most interesting, successful, daring and charismatic people on the planet,” said Bellamy who also wrote, produced and directed the film. “It is a piece of work that will hopefully be unifying to our industry as it speaks to all of those appreciative of ski films and mountain sport cinema. It is inspirational. It is an incredible, death-defying journey of human accomplishment that rivals anything we will see in our lifetimes.”

Ivana Radlova Named Sun Valley Nordic and Snowshoe Center Director

Sun Valley, ID - Ivana Radlova has been appointed Director of the Sun Valley Nordic and Snowshoe Center. Ms. Radlova comes to Sun Valley Resort with 32 years of cross country skiing experience and 10 years of coaching experience.

Most recently, she was Executive Director of the Rocky Mountain Nordic Ski Education Foundation at Steamboat Springs, CO. Other Nordic ski related positions she has held include Nordic Center Manager and Head Development Coach at Bogus Basin, Boise, ID, Instructor and Assistant Manager at Steamboat Ski Touring Center and Assistant Coach for the Colorado University Ski Team in Boulder, CO.

Ivana now lives in Hailey and is looking forward to becoming an integral part of the Sun Valley Resort Recreation Team.

As Fall Approaches, Sun Valley Resort Prepares for Its Landmark 75th Winter Season Celebration

Sun Valley, ID - This milestone may well mark the resort’s most assorted winter season with special events attracting skiers and riders with everything from a 75th Season Rail Exhibition to the Ski Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.

Although Sun Valley’s traditional ski season opening comes around Thanksgiving, commemorative events will kick off prior to the holiday season when Sun Valley first opened December 21, 1936.

Dollar Mountain, where it all began will host an all new 75th Season Rail Exhibition Friday evening, December 17. Seventy five seasons following the opening of the world’s first chairlift at this location, Dollar will now showcase an additional 24 new rails and jibs in its three new terrain parks – Old Bowl, Half Dollar, and Poverty Flats. The event is expected to draw star athletes anxious to ride the sun and flip for Sun Valley’s 75th.

Wagon Days Celebration Labor Day Weekend, September 1-6




Sun Valley / Ketchum, ID - On Labor Day Weekend the Cities of Ketchum and Sun Valley host the historic Wagon Days Celebration. The holiday weekend is packed with a variety of activities, many of which celebrate the valley's mining history. The highlight of the weekend is the Big Hitch Parade down Sun Valley Road and Ketchum's Main Street at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

First Annual Sun Valley Harvest - A Gathering of Film Festival

Sun Valley, ID - Sun Valley Resort plans to kick it in gear early with the First Annual Sun Valley Harvest; A Gathering of Film Festival, October 22-23, 2010.
The event will mark the first of many festivities planned for Sun Valley’s 75th winter season opening Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 2010.

The festival is billed as a “friendly competition to showcase the beauty of our mountains and valley - and the talent of those who live here – ski here and ride here.”

Film and video makers entering the competition will be judged on the following criteria: compelling mountain action, consistent content with the Responsibility Code and the Smart Code, family edit (PG rated), quality, creativity, story telling and five-minute maximum.

The first entry fee deadline will be by September 10 ($30),the second by September 30,($40) and the final deadline will be October 15, 2010.
The festival will be sponsored by Sun Valley Resort, Level 1, Smith, Apple’s Bar & Grill and the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation.

Music in the Mountains

Sun Valley, ID - The 26th season of the Sun Valley Summer Symphony's free music series continues through August 17 at the Sun Valley Pavilion.

The 33rd annual Northern Rockies Folk Festival, August 6 & 7, is presenting artists Lisa Haley and the Zydekats, and Kelly Willis! Come out for this weekend full of fun at Hop Porter Park in Hailey.

Mickey and the Motorcars are coming to Bellevue again on August 10! Don't miss this event that benefits the Bellevue Labor Day celebration.

Due to popular demand Don Felder, An Evening at the Hotel California will be performing an encore performance at this year's Danny Thompson Memorial on August 18 in the Sun Valley Pavilion. This concert benefits the Danny Thompson Memorial Leukemia Fund which supports St. Luke's Mountain States Tumor Institute and the University of Minnesota Cancer Center. Presented by US Bank.

7th Annual 100 Day Pig Roast celebrates 100 days until the opening of Bald Mountain for winter sports on August 21. Reggae bands will play at a street party at Apple's Bar & Grill at the Warm Springs lift area.

Rediscover the joyous spirit of John Denver’s music on August 31. Jim Salestrom and friends, including special guests from John Denver’s previous band: Bill Danoff, Denny Brooks, Jim Horn, Alan Deremo, Chris Nole and Pete Huttlinger, will perform a John Denver tribute concert.

Sun Valley Music Festival, September 25 will feature Paul Tillotson's Love Trio and more.

Roundhouse Gondola to Open Earlier

Sun Valley, ID - Beginning tomorrow, Friday, July 16, the Roundhouse Gondola will begin operation at 9 am.

Hours for the remainder of the summer season will be 9 am to 4 pm. daily.
All River Run Plaza base facilities also will open at 9 am including Pete Lane’s for downhill bike rental, The Coffee Cart, Brass Ranch and the Flow Zone.
Roundhouse Restaurant will continue to be open for dining 11 am to 3 pm.

Dinner at Sun Valley Resort Includes Free Opera House Movie

Sun Valley, ID - Now Sun Valley guests can enjoy a free movie after dining at most resort restaurants.

Dinners at Bald Mountain Pizza, Trail Creek Cabin, The Ram and Gretchen’s will come with a free Opera House movie. The offer will continue through the summer season.
Movie vouchers will be available to each diner for an early or late movie on the same evening.

Back Nine of Trail Creek Golf Course Opens Tomorrow!

Sun Valley, ID - With the tomorrow opening of the back nine of the Trail Creek Course, all 27 holes of Sun Valley Resort’s golf will be open.

Now golfers can play 18 holes on the Trail Creek Course, nine holes on the White Clouds, putt on the 18-hole Sawtooths Putting Course and tune their game at the Practice Facility.

The Sun Valley Club restaurant and bar are open daily from 11 am to 5 pm with a bar menu served after 3 pm. For tee times please call the Pro Shop, 208-622-2251.

White Clouds to Open Friday

Sun Valley, ID - Sun Valley Resort’s White Clouds Golf Course and the 18-hole Sawtooths Putting Course will open Friday, May 7. Sun Valley Resort’s White Clouds Golf Course and the 18-hole Sawtooths Putting Course will open Friday, May 7. Green fees will be $75 for 18 holes and $5 for adults and $3 for youngsters playing the Sawtooths. However, in celebration of Mother’s Day weekend, fees for the Sawtooths will be waived for all.

Sun Valley Skier Count Exceeds 20% Over Previous Ski Season

Sun Valley, ID - Skier count for Sun Valley’s winter season exceeded the resort’s goal of 400,000 and pushed ahead of last season by 20 per cent.
Sun Valley’s 74th ski season saw an increase of 68,784 skiers and boarders over the previous year, making it one of three seasons surpassing the 400,000 mark in the past five years.

“I would like to thank all the skiers and boarders who experienced Sun Valley this past ski season. Thanks to everyone we not only met but surpassed our expectations for the season. We hope you can join in our celebration next year when Sun Valley marks its 75th winter season,” Tim Silva, Sun Valley Resort General manager, said.

Sun Valley Celebrates Christmas In April

Sun Valley, ID - Every Sun Valley ski pass becomes a Season Pass on the last day of Sun Valley’s winter season, Sunday, April 18. Everyone with any kind of Sun Valley ski pass can ski for free this Sunday. In appreciation for an excellent 74th winter season, Sun Valley will offer this free “make-up” day recognizing the ski closure on Christmas day due to a power outage.

    Prices Drop at Sun Valley for Spring

    Sun Valley, ID - Beginning Monday, March 29, Early/Late Season lift rates will go into effect continuing through the end of the season, April 18.
    Also, beginning Tuesday, March 30, daily lift ticket prices on Dollar and Baldy will be discounted for adults, children, (under 13) and seniors (65 & over).
    For Baldy, a one day adult ticket will be $56, children $34 and seniors, $45.
    For Dollar Mountain a one day adult lift ticket will be $30, children $25 and seniors $25.

    The last day for skiing at Sun Valley will be Easter Sunday, April 4.

    Colbie Caillat Kicks Off Sun Valley Pavilion Concert Series

    Sun Valley, ID - Pop star and Grammy Award winner Colbie Caillat will perform at the Sun Valley Pavilion Sunday, May 30.
    The singer/songwriter is best known for her hits, “Bubbly,” “Realize,” “The Little Things,” and “Feelings Show.”
    Caillat and Jason Mraz won a Grammy for their best pop collaboration for the song, “Lucky.”
    Caillat’s visit to Sun Valley has been made possible through a coordinated effort by Sun Valley Resort and the Sun Valley Wellness Festival, May 28-31.

    Sun Valley to Celebrate NSAA 'National Safety Week'

    Sun Valley, ID - What is Smartstyle? Do you know “Your Responsibility Code?”
    What is the most important “Get Smart” tip for Freestyle Terrain Park riders?


    Skiers and riders will all be challenged by these questions and rewarded with answers and free prizes January 16-22, 2010 when Sun Valley celebrates the National Ski Area’s Association “National Safety Week.”
    A heads-up, fun approach will be taken to heighten the awareness of slope safety in Sun Valley – on Baldy, at the new Super Pipe, in Dollar Mountain’s new Terrain Park and throughout both mountains.
    And, the Smartstyle message will go off-mountain and into the classroom when the Sun Valley Ski Patrol, avalanche dogs and Terrain Park personnel meet students at Hemingway and Hailey Elementary schools. Third, fourth and fifth graders at Hemingway will be visited Tuesday, January 19 and the same grades at Hailey Elementary School will host the Sun Valley Mountain Dept. staff Wednesday, January 20, 2010.
    Because Sun Valley Resort takes the safety and well being of its guests very seriously, skiers and riders on Dollar and Baldy will be invited to participate in a variety of safety oriented activities throughout “National Safety Week.”

    Sun Valley Nordic Center to Open Christmas Day

    Sun Valley, ID - Sun Valley Nordic Center will open for the season Christmas Day, Friday, December 25, 2009.
    The Nordic Center will be fully operational offering private and group lessons (both classical and skate), equipment and locker rental and retail sales.
    It is even rumored that Santa may be taking a much deserved tour of the trails.

    In addition, a new Guided Historic Snowshoe Tour will begin at 2 pm each Saturday and Sunday.

    Sun Valley Ready to Debut New Terrain Park, 18-Foot Superpipe

    Brian Callahan named new Terrain Park Manager

    This season Sun Valley Resort has come together with Snow Park Technologies to construct a world class Terrain Park on Dollar Mountain.
    With a whole new jump line located in Old Bowl on Dollar Mountain along with 12 brand new rails, boxes and jibs, it is sure to become a Number One contender, according to Sun Valley’s new Terrain Park Manager Brian Callahan.
    Callahan comes to Sun Valley from Breckenridge, CO and has worked at terrain parks for the past eight years. He also has skied professionally for 15 years and was on the Pro Mogul Tour.
    “Sun Valley is going quite legit with its partnership with SPT. My goal is to take Sun Valley to the top in three years,” Callahan said.



    He is partnered with Peter Columbo, Sun Valley Resort’s new terrain park builder. Columbo was most recently at Mammoth Mountain. His team will consist of four terrain park builders using three dedicated snow cats to build and maintain the park. They also will build a Progression Park on Half Dollar which will include features the entire family can enjoy.
    Sun Valley’s Half Pipe on Baldy’s Warm Springs also gets a makeover. SPT has built a “perfect” world class 18-foot Super Pipe which will be cut nightly to ensure highest quality, according to Callahan.
    Sun Valley’s new Terrain Park, the Progression Park and the Super Pipe will all open this Saturday, December 19, 2009.
