TGR Launches The North Face 2011 Ski & Snowboard Photo Contest

Teton Village, WY - Teton Gravity Research & The North Face are proud to announce The North Face 2011 Ski & Snowboard Photo Contest. Through February 2, 2010, all are welcome to submit their top photos from this winter into the Best Powder or Best Freeride categories for a chance to win a North Cascade Heli Trip for two or a $250 The North Face gift card and skis from Atomic.

The 10 photos with the most Facebook "Likes" from each category will make into the finals. From these finalists, The North Face athletes and representatives of the TGR production team will choose a First Place Winner for each category as well as the Grand Prize Winner for Best Overall photo. Prizes will be for two as photography requires both a rider and the documentarian.

Last year's contest amassed an astounding 641 entries with Erik Bro Hostetler's "Wasatch Pow" photo of Colter Hinchcliffe reigning supreme and taking the Grand Prize and Best Powder Category. Copa's "Squaw Valley Air" photo of skier Jamie Blair won last year's Best Air Category.

Snow King Mountain Announces 2010-2011 Season Pass Sale

Jackson Hole, WY - Snow King Resort is excited to announce its early season Winter Season Pass prices for 2010-2011. Jackson Hole & Teton Village Association

Teton Village, WY - Canon and American Park Network are offering FREE professional digital video workshops at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort on July 29 and 30. Come and learn from professional photographers and videographers while practicing with top-of-the-line Canon digital SLR equipment at no charge. Participants will learn all of the basics of camera function and cinematography, as well as basic video editing. Upon completion, participants will be able to download their videos from the Web.

The free video programs will take place twice daily on July 29 and 30. The workshops begin each day at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in the Gabe Room, located on the third floor of the Bridger Center, above JH Sports.

Space is limited. Participants should arrive approximately 30 minutes early. Participants may also pre-register online at www.PhotographyInTheParks.com.

No cameras are necessary. Canon digital SLR bodies and lenses and other video equipment will be available for use by participants, though guests are invited to bring their own Digital SLRs if they feature video capabilities.

Snow King Mountain Hosts Community Appreciation Day, May 29, 2010

Jackson Hole Concludes the 2010 Winter Season with Strong Results

Teton Village, WY - Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (JHMR) concluded the 2009/2010 winter season posting the 4th highest visitation level in its 45 year history with over 413,684 skiers gracing the slopes this winter. This year’s results mark the 5th consecutive year of skier visits above the 400,000 benchmark. The success is particularly notable in light of the lack of natural snow from opening to late January coupled with a unusually dry March. Economic conditions were equally challenging as the country continued to be marred in one of the deepest recessions in its history.
Snow arrived late in the Tetons with unusually low snowfall totals for the first 55 days of the JHMR operating season. Though overall snow totals for the season approached the 400 inch mark, 50 inches came during closing week. Long time Teton residents now compare this winter to the record low of 1976/1977 when visitation levels dropped to 36,300, a 75% drop from the previous year. By means of comparison the 413,684 visits of 2010 represent a 5.6% drop from last year.
“It is hard to recover completely when we miss the first half of the season which includes the all-important December holidays and the month of January. During the first 55 days out of a 128 day season, we had the arguably lowest recorded snow fall of the past the 30 years,” Jerry Blann, president commented. “We are never pleased when we experience a drop in visitation. However, once the snow began falling on January 23rd the business levels showed a substantial surge. We finished the season with strong results, which can only be attributed to the hard work of the entire resort staff.”

Celebrate Closing Weekend at Jackson Hole

Teton Village, WY - Closing Weekend at Jackson Hole comes on the heels of one of the best powder cycles of the season, and the weather pattern is forecast produce up to another foot of fresh by Saturday. Legendary skier and Jackson Hole Ski Patroller, Kevin Brazell used his best skier colloquialisms to tweet about the conditions on @JHLocals “Put on the super rocker fattys and come churn the butter, this is gonna be one for the books!! Braze. JHSP.”

Easter Egg Hunt
Bring the kids out to the Kids Ranch in Teton Village, at noon on Sunday for the Easter Egg Hunt. Kids ages 0-7 can apply their best investigative skills in Fort Wyoming at the Kids Ranch, whereas kids 7 or older will be roaming the Teewinot terrain in search of their goodies. Entry is free of charge and open to everyone.
Live Music
Saturday starting at 2:30pm there will be more live music by Steam Powered Airplane under the Tram accompanied by an Après menu at Nick Wilson’s. On Sunday the final festivities will kick-off again at 2.30 with live DJs including DJ Cut La Whut spinning until well after the lifts close. Bring your party hats.

It’s Dumping!

Teton Village, WY - It’s closing weekend and winter has saved the best for last. Eighteen inches have already fallen in the last 48 hours and more snow is in the forecast. So put away the sun block, new snow and end of the season events will make closing weekend at Jackson Hole the best yet.

Get out your fat skis because closing weekend at Jackson Hole will have lots of fresh powder. It may be March, but we’re riding like it’s January. This is your last chance for first tracks this season!

As if the new snow wasn’t enough, closing weekend is full of fun après events to entertain after the lifts close. From 2:30pm to 5:30pm on both Saturday and Sunday, there will be a band and DJs under the Tram dock. Also, if you're bringing the little ones, don’t miss the Easter Egg hunt on Sunday.

Winter Makes a Comeback in Jackson Hole

Teton Village, WY - According to the National Weather Service, winter has decided to make a major comeback in the Tetons, effective immediately. Lest we thought the 2010 ski season would end with sunny skies, beers on the deck, and jamming with Grace Potter Rendezvous Peak Forecast employed a special phrase reserved for the deepest snow forecasts: “heavy at times.” Here is what the Rendezvous Peak Forecast has to say about the following 36 hours: A MAJOR STORM SYSTEM IS…EXPECTED TO MOVE IN AS THE EVENING WEARS ON. LIGHT PRECIPITATION WILL BECOME WIDESPREAD THIS EVENING AND BECOME HEAVY AT TIMES BY MORNING. TOTAL SNOWFALL OF 1 TO 2 FEET IS EXPECTED IN THE HIGH COUNTRY.

Sleeping Giant Sponsors First Annual Video Contest and Festival

Cody, WY - Sleeping Giant Ski Area is sponsoring a first annual video contest and festival. All aspiring video makers are encouraged to enter their snow sports video that will be judged and shown this spring. There is $1000 in cash prizes and winners get their videos played on various websites including the Powell Tribune, TCT and Sleeping Giant. The winning videos will also be played during the awards ceremony at the Big Horn Cinemas on Friday, April 30. This video contest and festival would not be possible without the support of the sponsors including TCT, Northwest College, Powell Tribune ,Open Range Images and Big Horn Cinemas.

There will be seven different categories and you can enter up to 4. The entry fee is $5 per category. The different categories include Best Overall Feature, Best Cinematography, Best Trick, Best Video Promoting Ski Area, Best Skier in a Video, Best Snowboarder in Video and Best Use of Mountain.

Each video must be 3 minutes in length and no more than 15 minutes. 100% of the video must be shot on any of the 1200 permitted acres of Sleeping Giant. January Ends on a Huge Note

Teton Village, WY - Winter unleashed its full force on the Tetons, plastering Jackson Hole with 62” of snow since Tuesday January 19th. Mountain conditions are at all time highs, from over the head powder on the Hobacks to fresh groomed corduroy on Sundance and Gros Ventre. The hollering of skiers leaving trenches behind them down Rendezvous Bowl was audible across the hill.

On the heels of Casper Bowl and the Crags yesterday, Saratoga Bowl opened today. Kodak-worthy powder blanketed this legendary terrain making landings softer than the proverbial feather bed—easily topping the list of best all time runs for any skier.

Best of all—another storm is scheduled to touch down this weekend—and with the current base coverage conditions are likely to be top tier once again. As of yesterday, Jackson Hole had received 239 inches of snow--more than any other major resort in the Rockies, except for neighboring Grand Targhee, which has received 249 inches.

Big Snow hits Jackson Hole

1st Annual The North Face Photo Contest on TetonGravity.com

Teton Village, WY - Teton Gravity Research is proud to announce the 1st annual The North Face Photo Contest on TetonGravity.com. The contest runs through January 31st, 2009. Skiers and Snowboarders can submit photos in two categories, Best Powder and Best Air. An overall winner will be chosen from these two categories. Prize packages are awarded in pairs in acknowledgment of the photographer and the athlete that created each photo. The grand prize winners will win a trip to Last Frontier Heliskiing in British Columbia.

The contest is judged by the public, who can share and vote on each photo. Awards include a trip for two to Last Frontier Heliskiing in British Columbia, four pairs of Atomic Blog Skis, 4 Large North Face Duffels, one Raging Viking North Face Jacket and four backcountry setups from Backcountry Access. Each BCA package consists of a backpack, probe, shovel, and avalanche beacon.
