North American Ski Training Center (NASTC) to Summit and Ski down Mt. Shasta

Truckee, CA - The North American Ski Training Center (NASTC) will lead a group to the summit of one of California’s famed peaks, Mt. Shasta (14,179ft). The descent of Mt. Shasta on skis is truly an exceptional adventure and accomplishment; it’s a thrilling experience that combines mountaineering and skiing in one peak and one journey. There is no experience required to make the ascent on this 3-day expedition style approach, however experience skiing off-piste is necessary for the descent. A unique aspect of this NASTC guided adventure is that it combines together education and adventure. Each day, the group will participate in a snow school where the appropriate mountaineering and alpine touring skills will be learned, discussed and practiced.

The excursion will take place over 3 days from May 14-16. All three days are spent on the mountain. Each day will involve some ski time as well as well the instruction and practice of ski mountaineering skills and techniques. The ascent up to the peak and the descent back down on skis takes place all in one day. The descent from the summit is about 7,000ft. This expedition style of approach to Mt. Shasta is more enjoyable way to summit the peak and a valuable stepping stone to bigger mountaineering excursions.
