Sault Ste Marie, ON - Contrary to semi-popular belief and some media reports, Searchmont Resort is still open and enjoying spring conditions and warm deck temperatures. After an early morning radio report today implying that all facilities in Northern Ontario were now closed, the Resort’s phone starting ringing off the hook from skiers/boarders ensuring their March Break Mountain plans were still a go.
Dan Missere, General Manager, has been posting condition reports to his daily blog on the Searchmont website and says that the snow is holding, especially on runs accessed by the Quad. “Looks are deceiving when the snow gets dirty”, says Missere, “You have to ski it to believe it. While things soften up later in the day, you can still easily get through it or hang out on the deck where temperatures have reached up to 20 degrees celcius.”
What’s particularly amazing is how good conditions are considering a total snowfall of only 140 cm this year. Missere states “Our Outside Operations crew has done an incredible job of maintaining conditions this season. Snowmaking, grooming, stockpiling and pushing snow are what have got us to a point where we might indeed be the last mountain standing. Kudos to their planning and hard work”.
Fifteen of eighteen runs and all lifts are still running with the Four Hour Flex and Conditions Guarantee still in effect. Lift ticket pricing will be discounted when service is reduced. Rentals are only $9.95 plus tax for the rest of the season. Snowbus Service is done for the season. On Saturday March 20, the annual Slush Cup, Downhill Dummy, a Downhill Bike Derby and live entertainment are a go. SAFA’s Big Air and NOD’s Nancy Greene race are under review.
