Lincoln, NH - This winter,
Loon Mountain Resort will present a series of ladies-only camps to help women take their skiing and riding to the next level. The camps are designed to foster a collaborative learning environment, where students and coaches work together to improve their skills and forge lasting relationships with each other.
The first of these workshops, the Women’s Performance Camp, is designed for women who ski at an intermediate level or above, and will take place on January 26-27. With the help of expert female coaches, video analysis and more, skiers will gain the knowledge and confidence to rip black-diamond steeps, hit the moguls, and float through the trees.
“The Women’s Performance Camp is a camp run by women, for women,” says Erin Bell, a Women’s Performance Camp coach and veteran 14-year Loon ski coach. “The goal is not to make women ski more like men, but for women to ski more like women, gain confidence, and enjoy a wider variety of terrain.”
The Women’s Performance Camp includes a two-day lift ticket and 12 hours of teaching by some of the most experienced female coaches on the East Coast. Sponsors Billabong, Chaos, and Barefoot Wine will provide complimentary goodies to camp participants. Loon will host a second Women’s Performance Camp later in the season, on March 9-10.
“Selfishly, I think it’s great to get women to become better skiers,” Bell says. “That way, I don’t have to ski with the boys all the time.”
Snowboarders will get their chance to shine during the Women's Droppin’ In Freestyle Ski & Snowboard Camp, presented by Oakley, on March 30-31. This camp is designed to motivate the woman who is looking to progress into the park and pipe, or strengthen the park skills she already has. Oakley-sponsored pro skiers and snowboarders will serve as coaches, teaching participants how to have more fun on the mountain and improve their freestyle skills. Past Droppin’ In coaches have included Gretchen Bleiler, Marie-France Roy, and Kristie Leskinen. The camp includes breakfast, lunch, yoga sessions, an Oakley gift bag stuffed with goodies, and more.
These camps regularly sell out, so interested women are encouraged to reserve their spots as soon as possible by calling 1-800-229-LOON (5666).
